JORDAN DOWNS CHILDRENS PARK
The Children’s Park is part of the continuing redevelopment of the Jordan Downs neighborhood. Framed by the Site 4 and Site 5 affordable housing buildings, the park is the main open space for this block. Pedestrian paseos connect the block north-south to Century Gateway and Freedom Tree Park and east-west within the block. The focus is on children’s play of all ages offering various challenges for toddlers to teens with undulating soft surfaces, a tyke track, mounds and trampolines, various climbing structures, a half court basket ball area with stepped seating, and a flexible lawn across from the Community Room for events. Low water and native plants surround the park creating a soft edge and a protective berm to the street. Along the paseo, the undulation of the edge creates seating niches with mounded bench forms. Over 34 trees will be planted to create a dense urban forest and provide shade to the play areas.
